Cotton Firm but Lower for Thursday

So far at midday for the Thursday trading session, cotton futures are 2 to 4 points in the red. New crop futures are trading higher on the anticipated acre reduction. A Cotton Grower survey projected US cotton plantings in 2021 would total 11.6 million acres vs. 12.185 this past year. USDA’s weekly Export Sales report showed upland cotton sales on the week ending 12/31 were 153,052 RBs. That was down from 287k LW, but up from 152k RBs the same week in 2019/20. Official Census exports for November were reported at 1.33m bales, a new record for the month. October was also a record, bringing MYTD official exports to a record 4.87m bales through the first 4 months. The Cotlook A index was up another 120 points on 1/6, now at 86.80 cents/lb. The AWP was updated to 63.03 c/lb, and will be updated after the close.

Jul 21 Cotton is at 81.47, down 4 points
Dec 21 Cotton is at 76.38, up 17 points
